AWRC Will be at Mulberry River Earth Day Event!

One of the best things about a career in environmental science is getting to work outside. We are joining the Mulberry River Society for their Earth Day Celebration this Friday, April 20th on the beautiful Mulberry River. We will be sharing information about who we are and what we do, and about how we test water quality for Arkansas researchers and the public.

This year’s celebration will be big because it’s also the 50th Anniversary of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. This Act was established by Congress in 1968 to preserve rivers with outstanding natural, cultural, and recreational values. Designated rivers remain free-flowing and un-dammed for the enjoyment of the people. The Mulberry River was designated a National Wild and Scenic River in April of 1992.

Governor Asa Hutchinson and U.S. Senator John Boozman will headline as speakers at the event.  Arkansas Representative Sarah Capp, and former U.S. Senator David Pryor will also be in attendance. The celebration will also officially dedicate the newly restored High Bank and Indian Creek access points along the Mulberry River.

Come out and enjoy a day on the river! More information about the event can be found on the Mulberry River Society website.
